The Unzué Space in Mar del Plata hosted this Saturday the 3rd Plurinational Meeting of Gordes of Argentina, with the presence of more than 300 activists and local groups, from the city of Buenos Aires, Rosario, Chubut, Santa Fe, Peru, Uruguay and Colombia. Starting at noon, the meeting brought together a group of fat and body diversity activists, who raised their voices against the pathologization of fatness, the stigmatization of fat bodies and fatphobia. Lucia Portos, undersecretary of Gender and Sexual Diversity Policies of the province of Buenos Aires, told Télam that "this type of meeting serves to bring together activists from all over the country and from neighboring countries and discuss issues of public policies, visibility, representation and communication Fat people suffer discrimination in all areas of our lives that limits our ability to access health and education, but also in relation to party politics and private matters," emphasized the official who chaired the meeting. Portos indicated that the topic of access to health takes up a large part of the workshops and reflections. "The equipment, like the stretchers, is not prepared to support weights greater than 120 kilos," said the official, adding that the State is working to break paradigms with these issues.
