They will plant 3,500 araucarias in Neuquén to fight the climate crisis

The Association of Friends of Patagonia (AAP) reported that this Wednesday it began planting 3,500 Araucaria araucarias in the area of Lake Ñorquinco, located north of the Lanín National Park, in the province of Neuquén, after a devastating fire that occurred in 2013. and in the face of the prevailing climate crisis.

 

In dialogue with Télam, the director of the AAP Sebastián Homps explained that "the araucaria species can be more than 1,100 years old, so it is a very long-term action."

 

"We are planting 3,500 native trees together with technicians from the Lanín National Park and volunteers who come from all over the country; we put together a group of around 70 people, who sleep in a school and spend a few days working on the reforestation of this forest. millennial" said Homps.

 

Additionally, together with the local community, students and parents, they will plant some specimens at School 72 in the Lonco Mula area, located in the department of Aluminé, also in the province of Neuquén.

 

The association has been carrying out reforestation actions for native trees in burned or damaged forests since its inception in 1999 and, according to the official, they have carried out "more than 20 reforestation actions and around 45,000 trees planted."

 

"The NGO was born in San Martín de los Andes and we developed environmental education and environmental action projects in Neuquén, Buenos Aires, Santa Cruz, Chubut, Mendoza and recently we also carried out an action in Salta," explained the director.
