Guido Pella from Bahia, one of Zagreb's heroes when Argentina won the Davis Cup in 2016 for the first and only time in history, received a well-deserved tribute this Sunday after announcing his retirement from tennis at the age of 33.

The left-hander from Bahia appeared on the central court of the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis as soon as Argentina's victory over Lithuania with the doubles point was consummated, and when he was recognized by the public, "give him champion, give him champion" was loudly sung as people's recognition of his career and especially of that feat in Zagreb.

"The Davis was the best thing that happened to me in my career, I had not taken the real dimension of that achievement, but now that time has passed and I look back I value it, it is the best without a doubt," analyzed the tennis player born in Bahía Blanca in dialogue with the press media.

With the retirement of Pella, added to the previous ones of Juan Martín Del Potro from Tandil and Leo Mayer from Corrientes, the only one of the four musketeers in the formation that won the final against Croatia 3-2 on November 27, 2016, under Daniel Orsanic's captaincy is Federico Delbonis from Azul, who at 32 years old is still fighting on the circuit.

"I had been maturing this decision for a couple of years, I honestly didn't have the desire or the internal fire to want to continue playing, and so I couldn't," admitted the left-handed player, who ranked 20th on the planet in 2019, when He won his only ATP in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and also reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.

Pella, who currently occupies the 189th spot in the ATP world rankings, played his last tournament at the recent US Open and announced his retirement from tennis through his social networks last Friday night.
